On August 12, 2008, Democratic and Republican candidates for local, state and federal open offices will be decided. Most primary mail-in ballots have already sent, and the Elbert County Elections office has been keeping track of whose and how many have been returned. Status of your mail-in ballot may be found by reviewing your voter information at http://www.sos.state.co.us/Voter/.
*
If you would like to participate by mail-in ballot, you may access the applications here http://www.elbertcounty-co.gov/dept_election.php. The application must be returned by fax via 303-621-3212 or by hand-carry no later than 4:30PM on Tuesday, August 5, 2008.
*
Note: please use 42 cents in stamps to mail back your ballot!
*
Early voting begins Monday, August 4th and runs through Friday, August 8th at the Ag Building, which is the building located to the north upon entering the Elbert County Fairgrounds in Kiowa. The booths open at 8AM and close at 4:30PM. Sample ballots may also be viewed at http://www.elbertcounty-co.gov/dept_election.php.
*
If you are registered as an Independent and would like to participate in the Primary Election, you may do so by re-registering in the Party of your choice either as part of the early voting process, or at the proper precinct location on August 12. If you elected for a permanent mail-in ballot as an independent, you would be voting a Provisional Ballot.
*
For your Precinct information, you may use your recently received 2008 Voter Information Card. The Precinct number is the ten digit number in the top line. Typically, you will hear only the last 2 numbers used. Or, you may call Megan at 303-621-3127 to verify your correct Precinct information.
*
Voting locations for each Precinct may be found at http://www.elbertcounty-co.gov/documents/Mail%20In%20Flyer.pdf
*
Interesting facts: As of Thursday, July 30th, the Elbert County Elections office had mailed out 3,700 Republican Primary Ballots and 1,006 Democratic Primary Ballots. This is a significant increase in potential Primary voters for both Parties. We all hope that all Elbert County voters will take advantage of the convenience to vote in this Primary.
*
Information regarding the candidates in each party for each office is available on line and in the print media including the Elbert County News, the Ranchland News and the HighPlains Rider. Please take advantage of the opportunity to help choose the best candidate to represent your interests!
