The Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce has begun their annual Senior's of Elbert County holiday drive. Because local agencies are providing food baskets, the Chamber would like to focus on toiletry items, which can be a great expense on a fixed income. Gift cards and/or money donations would also be greatly appreciated. Decorated donation boxes are located at the following local businesses: NAPA, Botana Junction, Banks of Choice of Elizabeth and of Kiowa, Big R, Elbert County Library in Elizabeth, True Value of Elizabeth and Elodji's Wine Bar. The final day of the drive will be Saturday, December 5th at the Olde Country Christmas celebration in Elizabeth. For more information, including ways to be of assistance with this project, please contact Beverly at the Chamber at 303-646-4287 or Patty Ann at CASA-Advocates for Children at 303-646-1905.

The Friends of the Simla Public Library are sponsoring the annual Silent Auction during the month of November. If you have donations, please bring them to the library.

The 2010 Seedling Tree Program begins in November. Both the Kiowa and the Double El/Agate Conservation Districts are participating. From the Kiowa Conservation District's Website, http://www.kiowacd.org/: "The Kiowa Conservation District are cooperators with the Colorado State Forest Service Nursery to offer seedling trees to landowners owning 2 or more acres and purchasing the trees and/or shrubs for conservation practices on the land such as windbreaks, shelter belts, wildlife habitat, erosion control, etc. A couple of new items for this year; bare-root Gambel oak will be available, the nursery will also be offering a limited number of 'extra large' potted seedlings for replacement plantings in existing windbreaks. ... The 2010 seedling season will begin in November 2009 with distribution in April 2010. If you have any questions, call the office at 303-621-2070 ext. 101 or email" them at eileen.rademacher@co.nacdnet.net.
