Elbert County Extension Open House
The Agricultural Building, Kiowa Fairgrounds, Kiowa
Saturday, September 20, 2008, 9:30 AM to Noon
The event, which is open to anyone in Elbert County, will feature all aspects of what the Colorado State University Extension offers, from 4-H non-livestock projects to Family/Consumer Education, with an eye toward “showing our constituents what we can do to serve them,” according to Duane Owens, Extension Advisory Committee Chairman, who will give a short presentation for the assembly at 10:30. Among the exhibits will be demonstrations in cake decorating, leatherwork, food preservation and performing arts. Music will be provided by contestants from the spring 4-H Contest Day: musicians from age 6-18 on a variety of instruments as well as vocals. “Because Extension offers so much more, to the whole family” Owens adds, “we’re also displaying many services and information for county residents of all ages as well,” such as demonstrations by the Master Gardeners, information concerning noxious weeds, small acreage management, natural resources, and wildlife, “and that’s only part of what we do.” “We hope for a large turnout,” Owens says, “because Extension offers so much in the way of leadership, creative problem-solving, education and life skills.” For further information, please contact Trena Smith at ELBERT2@colostate.edu or 303/621-3162.
