There are a number of items of interest scheduled to be heard by the BOCC and referral agencies this week. We have been told that the BOCC will be holding a public hearing on Tuesday, August 26th, at 1:30PM to discuss budget cuts with department heads and elected officials. It is scheduled to be held in the BOCC meeting room at the Kiowa Courthouse. If the meeting is held, it may be moved to the Kiowa Fairgrounds. We will provide more information as it becomes available. We encourage any who are able to attend. If you plan to participate, please remember to be prepared, be factual, be accurate, be passionate, and be polite.
*
On Wednesday evening, August 27th, the Verde Ridge PUD will be heard by the BOCC in an evening session. We expect the meeting will be moved from the Kiowa Courthouse to the Fairgrounds.
*
On Thursday evening, August 28th, the Planning Commission will be deciding on the West Elbert County Transportation Master Plan. It was delayed a week due to an oddity in the plan: The development company for the SuperSlab is named four (4) times in the document. The study and plan were paid for by tax payer dollars ($75,000 matching grant from Colorado's Department of Local Affairs). While the plan is well thought of, there was unanimous opposition from the Commission, and clear opposition from a number of citizens who attended the meeting to a single corporation being listed by name in a general planning document.
