Although we have had some much-needed snow over the last two weeks, western Elbert County remains in a D1 Drought, or moderate drought condition, and eastern Elbert County is in a D0 Abnormally Dry condition per the U.S. Drought Monitor as of March 31, 2009. You can visit this monitor at http://drought.unl.edu/dm/DM_state.htm?CO,W. As a result of the drought conditions, and our seasonal (all season?) winds, Elbert County continues to be in a Stage II Burn Ban. For more information regarding the restrictions, please call or visit your local Fire Protection District website, or call the Office of Emergency Management at 303-805-6131.
